Goal Work Updates

Using the values you already live to reach bigger goals In NLP, values are what matter most to us: the quiet "why" behind our choices and motivation. Some of our values are already successful. They happen with ease, without effort or force. Others, usually the newer, bigger or more challenging goals, take a great deal of effort. The NLP view is that the difference is often not the value itself, but how we picture and feel it. We hold every value as an inner picture, sound and feeling, and the features of that picture, whether near or far, bright or dull, heavy or light, shape how achievable it seems. That is the whole idea behind this guide. You first work out how your most successful values are held: how you see them, hear them and feel them. Then you do the same for the goal you are reaching for. Placing the two side by side shows you exactly what differs, and that is where the opportunity lies. You can alter and shape how you visualise the bigger goal, borrowing the qualities that make your easy values feel easy, so the new goal begins to feel natural and achievable. The process borrows a little from NLP, a little from Timeline Therapy, and it is the one I use all the time when I am working on my own goals at home and cannot get to a balance myself. It has four gentle steps. List and rank your values. Explore how your values that support a successful life and your new goals are held. Compare them on a Venn chart and choose three qualities to shift. Then anchor the change into your timeline. There are no right answers, only honest ones. Go with your first response, take your time, and return to it whenever your life changes shape. This guide is the first half of the process. I am planning a short timeline YouTube video as the second half, so keep an eye out for that one. The printable guide is attached. I would love to hear what you notice.
